Our Favorite Mineral Sunblocks For Kids and Adults

Our Favorite Mineral Sunblocks For Kids and Adults

Today I’m excited to talk about a topic I feel very passionately about - sunblock! I am a self-professed sunblock addict and as someone with sensitive skin, that burns easily and prefers mineral sunblock, I have tried them all so you don’t have to!

Here are some of the things I look for in a natural sunblock. First, the ingredients and second the absorption/white factor (anyone who uses mineral sunblock knows what I’m talking about…nothing is worse than slapping on some mineral sunblock and looking like you have thick white paint on that is impossible to rub in!).

I like to stick to natural makeup products and try to use products with the cleanest ingredients in them. I have looked up all of these sunblocks on the EWG site (if you’re not familiar with this resource, it rates how “clean” your products are) and they all have good ratings. I don’t strive to be perfect with this and some of these are considered more “clean” than others, but it’s safe to say the sunscreens below all generally have safe ingredients.

And one more note, I have nothing against non-mineral sunblock. My husband uses it, I use it if it’s what available to me and I don’t think there is anything wrong with it. Any sun protection is better than no sun protection in my book!

So without further ago, here are the sunblocks that I have tried, absolutley loved and continue to use.

Non-tinted:

Coola Organic Mineral Sunblock SPF 30 - This is my go to body sunblock! I will admit I’m partial to the coconut scented one (they also have unscented if you’re sensitive to that) and it honestly smells so good I love putting it on! It is on the pricey side but I find I generally only go through a few bottles a year and it lasts a very long time.

Thinksport SPF 50 - This is my go to for pool days or anytime that I know I need serious sun protection. Thinksport is an amazing brand with clean ingredients that consistency wins awards and also my father in law in palm springs wears it golfing and if you can survive 18 holes in 110 degree weather and scorching sun thats a real testiment to how well it works.

Saie Sunvisor SPF 35 - This is my absolute favorite non-tinted facial sunblock. It goes on so nicely, doesn’t look white, isn’t shiny and doesn’t feel like sunblock. Saie is my favorite beauty brand discovery of the year and I will continue to buy this over and over again.

Supergoop Matte Mineral Sunblock SPF 40- This sunblock almost has a chalky texture to it and like the others, goes on easily without looking cakey. Supergoop is an uber-popular brand and after using several of their sunblocks I totaly understand why. The only note I have is that I used to use the Supergoop Mineral Tinted Sunblock religiously (i even featured it here) and for some reason it started to irritate my skin. However, keep in mind i have ridiculously sensitive skin and wore it for at least a year without issues so I still recommend.

Tinted:

Saie Slip Tint - A very light tinted moisturizer with SPF . It provides a nice tint without feeling or looking like a foundation. I wear this almost every single day of the week and absolutely swear by it!

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint Mineral SPF 40 - If you’re looking for a little ore coverage, look no further. Another very reputable clean makeup brand, this product goes on smoothly without looking like sunblock or heavy foundation, but it provides enough coverage that you feel pulled together and like you’re wearing a bit of makeup.

For kids:

Thinkbaby SPF 50 - This is the holy grail of kids sunblocks in my opinion and what I usually purchase. It’s top rated by EWG (it rated a 1 which is their highest score), doesn’t feel sticky, has a pleasant scent and is perfect for pool days or afternoons at the park. I love this brand so much I use it for myself and feel totally comfortable using the non-baby specific sunblock on my daughter.

Coopertone Pure & Simple Baby SPF 50 - This is a great, affordable and easily found mineral sunblock. And coopertone is a trusted brand that has been around forever. Last year I bought a three pack on super sale and have been going through them ever since.

Badger Broad Spectrum SPF 30 - Well I’m clearly a sucker for scented sunblock (i know, i know - it’s not quite a “natural” that way but what can I say) and this tangerine and vanilla scent is awesome. They also have a non-scented option.

Blue Lizard SPF 50 - This is another one of the most trusted brands you’ll see on all the lists. It’s a totally solid pick and some people really like how the cap changes color to show you when there are harmful UV rays and you need sunblock.

Happy shopping!
