Our Favorite Chapter Books for Young Readers

We’ve recently leveled up to chapter books and I’m loving it just as much as my four year old is! Here are some of our favorite longer reads (in no particular order).

Princess in Black - This was out first foray into chapter books and it’s a great intro into longer books. The series follows Princess Magnolia AKA the Princess in Black as she defends the kingdom from monsters. There are color pictures on every page and and you don’t really need to read them in a specific order.

The Owl Diaries - This is the perfect started chapter book because it has multiple illustrations on each page and is in full color. Each book follows the same formula (they are diary entries) and I love reading them just as much as my daughter. And as a super bonus, there are over 14 so if your kid loves the series you’ll have plenty of books to read.

The Unicorn Diaries - This series is by the same author as The Owl Diaries and we just started reading them. They are in high demand at the library so they are clearly very popular!

Sophie Mouse - We love this series and have checked all of them out at the library. Sophie is an adorable young mouse living in the woods with her family and friends and each book follows one of her adventures. These books are on the long side and have fewer illustrations so best for kids that really like longer books.

Zoe and Sassafrass - This is a newer series to us and another winner. Zoe is a super cool little girl who can see magical animals that live in the forest. Each story in the Zoey and Sassafras series features a new magical animal with a problem that must be solved using science.

Avengers Assembly Orientation - My daughter has recently gotten into superheroes (correction - she is obsessed with Spider Man) so this cute story about super heroes in middle school is perfect for her. There are at least 2 in the series so far.
