Sustainable Gift Wrapping Ideas

Sustainable Gift Wrapping Ideas

My daughter is almost a three-nager and her party is just around the corner. I asked a few friends for their advice on how to wrap gifts more sustainably because the world could use every little bit of change we can muster and this is a pretty simple switch…

  • Use what you have — whether it’s an Amazon gift bag, or holiday bags/wrapping paper, just forget that it says ho ho ho on your kids third birthday gift (LIKE I HAD TO DO AND IT WAS HARD BC I LOVE A THEME.)

  • Try cloth — vintage/gently used scarves, thin towels with pretty patterns, bits of fabric ends from fabric stores, or even use new tea towels or blankets and make them a part of your gift.

  • Brown bags - with cute bows (youtube tutorial!) that you can make yourself with construction paper.

  • Craft paper or newspaper — spruce it up with twill and lavender sprigs (a go-to fave from our good friend Sarah)

  • Kids artwork — I know. you don’t actually keep it all so next time, try using it to wrap something. You can even stick them together to make it bigger!

  • Old maps - this is super classy and cute!

  • Craft paper or paper bags with cut-outs of piano music

  • Hand draw art to make it personal or cut-out art and glue it on

  • Use natural embellishments like leave or dried flowers instead of buying new bows

  • Potato chip bag — can be reused inside out (for a silver sheen!)

  • Tote bags — especially cute if you pick one that is meaningful to the person you’re gifting them
