Postpartum Doula Care, Rite Passages and Sacred Healing With Tnah Louise
A couple of weeks ago we sat down with postpartum doula and sacred healer, Tnah Louise, to chat about her best postpartum care tips, sacred healing, rites passages and more. Tnah is a creative catalyst who wears many hats.
Spiritually she is a Ceremonialist + Ritual Maker aka "The Good Witch of LA", who feels so passionate about sharing space + reintroducing the act of ceremony into everyday life, helping individuals, families, and her community mark milestones and transitions in their lives. She curates concoctions and remedies to clear and manifest in all ways. Tnah has found that this deep work serves as an ancient cook-fire, a meeting place where we come together to nurture one another through meaningful connection.
She suggests postpartum parents to find moments of mindfulness and rest. One of her big tips is to use BINAURAL BEATS. She suggests an app to use:
My go-to is called BrainWave, the four choices I use all the time are morning meditation; focus and alert and calm reflection more than anger relief and the power nap, oh how I love this on my busiest of days. All these can be programmed to play behind your music or use their ambiance.
She shares a recipe for a calming tea:
Rockin Mama Tea Recipe
1 part Hibiscus
1 part Rose Petals
1/2 part Rose Hips
1 /4 part Lavender
1 part Chamomile
1/4 part Lemon Balm
PRO TIP: For parents to be, Tnah loves this Postnatal Care book — The Mommy Plan.
For expecting parents and adoptive parents, check this out to read more about Tnah’s Blessingway's (a beautiful alternative to a Baby Shower).
Ps. If you’re still not comfortable with holding an in-person event, here’s a guide from us on throwing a virtual blessingway/baby shower.
If you just had a baby, Tnah is known for her ‘Closing of the Bones’ ceremonies — a deeply sacred way to honor and celebrate the pregnant body.
I worked with Tnah to do a multi-week belly bind that brought my stomach back together and kept my posture strong. I loved having her come to my house (she guided Mia on how to be a healing helper). It was wonderful to feel a woman taking care of me in a very motherly kind of way. This was especially important for me as my whole family lives all over the globe. Tnah also does placenta encapsulation. She is a true expert and follows safe and sterile procedures.
Another creative alternative to celebrate pregnancy and your baby in fetal form are ‘Umbilical Cord Dream Catchers’ that Tnah crafts.
For anyone with older kids, we spoke about ‘Sacred Menarche’ a program to train parents how to hold a rite of passage for their daughters in celebration of their first menstruation. Tnah’s Sacred Rite of Passage Ceremony sound absolutely amazing and empowering for young women. Check this video out for more.
