My Top Kid-Related Purchases of 2020
I had so much fun rounding up my favorite purchases of the year I thought I should to do the same for all my kid-related purchases. This is always a hard list because there are so many amazing products for kids (and I’ve recently added quite a bit to our home after Christmas) but for now I’m sticking to favorites I’ve been using all year or else recent purchases that skyrocketed to the top of my list. As you can see, this year was all about hands-on activities and fun at home.
Bacon Bit Co Resin Letters - I scored a set of these in-demand resin letters from Bacon Bit Co at the beginning of the year which was perfect for our at-home schooling. We’re also huge fans of Brooke and you can check out our interview with her here and learn more about Bacon Bit.
Wet Hairbrush - My child has the tangliest hair in the world and no amount of conditioner or detangler helps, but this wet brush does at least make brushing more tolerable.
The Magic Playbook - I’ve followed The Mama Notes instagram account for a long time and love all of her ideas for at home play so when she launched The Magic Playbook I bought it right away. It’s basically the busy parents solution to wanting to have perfectly Instagramable activities. Each month comes with dozens of themed activities, supply lists and printables. I’m a huge, huge fan and my daughter loves all of the activities!
Bust Toddler Playing Preschool - When we realized we weren’t going back to preschool we started following this plan and I can’t say enough positive things. In fact, I actually wrote them all down here if you’re interested.
Colorama Sensory Bins - We love Brittany and everything she creates (read our interview here)! We were lucky to work with her in the beginning of the year and I stocked up on her sensory bins which keep my little one entertained for hours.
Silicon Baking Cups - These come in handy for crafts, games, sensory bins, Basically they have a million uses and only cost a few bucks.
The Magical Yet - We acquired a lot of books this year, but this one is one of our faves. All about “the yet” that helps you accomplish your dreams, it feels like a modern version of All The Places You Go. Here’s another post on our favorite picture books of the year, recent favorite books featuring diverse characters and another of our favorite books about nature. And if you have friends close by, try a quarantine book swap and save your self some money!
Chelsea & West Play Tent - This is the one item on our list that we’ve only had for a short time, but it’s made quite the impact! Not only is adorable but it’s collapsable so you can store it in the closet which is perfect for people with small homes like myself.
Ookie Skateboard - Another amazing quarantine purchase. This skateboard with a handle is seriously the most fun and coolest thing around. Check out a video of us using it here.
Activity Trays- Since we spent the majority of 2020 crafting, these bins earned their worth in gold with the amount of times we used them.
Storage Bins - Like most of the world, I spent a lot of time organizing this year and discovered these bins from The Container Store are my favorite. They’re collapsable so if it’s not in use it’s easy to store.
Hape Marble Run - We bought this as a third birthday present and it was a total hit. We pull it out every few weeks and every time it’s just as exciting as the first. It’s well made and you can buy additional pieces to spruce it up.
Usbrone Little Dolly Sticker Books - These sticker books are absolute lifesavers for me (seriously!). The Usborne sticker books have perforated pages, the stickers are easy for little hands to peel and they have dozens of different themes. When I was trying to juggle working from home these books could entertain my daughter for an hour. If your kid likes stickers, these really are the best and make sure to buy directly from Usborne because they tend to be more expensive on Amazon.
Mama of Joy Kinetic Sand Sensory Bins - This ice cream kinetic sand bin was one of our most played with over the summer. We also bought a winter kit featuring fake snow which my daughter also loved.
Kids Lantern - We bought this in preparation for our road trip (at the suggestion of Brittany) and all I can say is my kid is obsessed. She uses it all the time especially when she decides to play in her closet or under her bed.
Potty Seat - This is a purchase only a parent can appreciate lol. We bought this when we were potty training my daughter and nearly a year later we still use it and love it.
Amy Wu and the Perfect Bao - This book tells the story of a Amy, a young girl on a mission to make the perfect bao. She wants hers to be as perfect as the ones her mom, dad and grandma make but it takes a lot of determination (and trial and error) to finally make the perfect one. I love the main character of the book, as well as her cute cat and there is even a bao recipe at the end of the book that we’re excited to try.
Happy shopping!
- Callie
