We are always looking for fun ways to dress up and use our imaginations! Earlier in quarantine, we had an amazing time making Paper Bag Animal Masks with the In Shelter Zoo project. Since then, I have been stockpiling egg cartons and drink carriers with the idea of crafting something fun just like this!

PROCESS

  1. Carefully cut out different areas from egg cartons and/or drink carriers.

  2. Paint desired animal, let completely dry.

  3. Using eyeglass screwdriver, carefully add holes for whiskers as well as the yarn head strap.

  4. For black whiskers, I took thread and cut several pieces that I grouped together, sprayed with hairspray, and let dry.

  5. For white whiskers, I used fishing wire, aluminum foil, and hot glue. Referencing this video, I took small pieces of foil and put in a hot pan. Very carefully take fishing wire piece and press end onto foil. This will melt the fishing wire to the foil. Let cool. Take foil and make into a little ball around fishing wire.

  6. Hot glue whiskers to mask. Black whiskers can either be glued directly on the front or on the inside and fed through a hole. For white whiskers, feed through hole and hot glue the foil to the inside of mask.

  7. Knot yarn pieces and feed through side holes, then tie in a bow in the back of your head.

  8. Trim masks so they do not hit your eyes and make comfortable for your face.
