Salazar is a spacious outdoor Sonora-Mexican restaurant that opened in 2016. When they first opened, under Chef Esdras Ochoa, (from Netflix’s The Final Table) it was a hot spot and I had some celeb sightings there. Now that Ochoa has left and the hype has calmed down, it’s become more of a pricey neighborhood spot. Instead of celebs, it’s a lot of dogs and kids. And I’m ok with that.
Vibes: We’re so close to Silver Lake, I think “hipster parents” best describes the scene perfectly. Since the space is outdoors, there’s a lot of room for your kids and pets to roam around and explore. Warning: they don’t remove their cactus spines, so keep kids and pets from them. We do have heaters and umbrellas here, they’re well prepped for all kinds of weather.
Kids Menu: No kids menu here, but they do offer tacos and quesadillas. I ordered M the Queso Chihuahua Quesadilla, with a flour tortilla. This came with guac and a large side of mild salsa. This quesadilla was enough for her to split with another kid and if remember correctly, there may have even been a little of leftovers.
I also ordered the Trout Contramar, mesquite-grilled trout for myself (see image 2) and that is a must-get. I was bummed out M didn’t try any of it but if you pop a quesadilla in front of her, she’s not trying anything else.
Heads up: There are no complimentary chips and salsa here so if you need something to tie your kiddo over, bring a snack.
Price: $8, not including tax and tip
Highchairs: We got a very clean highchair
Changing Table: I didn’t see a changing table in the bathroom. If you’re desperate though, there’s a lot of space to change.
Stroller Access: Plenty of room for strollers here, single or double wide, you’re safe.
Parking: It’s street parking, so be prepared to search for a residential spot.
Bonus: I think older kids will get a kick out of seeing so many dogs here. Lots of wet kisses!
