5 Ways To Help You Get Through The Holiday Blues!

5 Ways To Help You Get Through The Holiday Blues!

Jasmine Montoya

So many are struggling with the fact that they cannot go home to see their loved ones for the holidays due to the pandemic. Many families will be separated this year, and many will not be gathering for any holiday cheer!

This will be my third year of not being able to visit my family back home in NY due to a high conflict divorce and I wanted to share some helpful ways of getting through it.

  1. Acknowledge your feelings of sadness because it does suck to miss out on family time. You can do this by having a conversation with a loved one and expressing your feelings. Crying or journaling it out is another great way of letting those feelings out so they don’t fester and turn into something like anxiety or depression.

  2. What wonderful rituals/traditions does your family/culture do during this time? Try to highlight a few more this year and incorporate new traditions with the family. One new tradition that I love doing is having my son pick out a tree ornament that reflects the year. My tree is filled with a yearly memory which gives off a warm and fuzzy feeling. Each one tells a story, and you can be magically transported back into time!

  3. Prioritize Gratitude. This is a great way to keep grounded and keep the holiday spirit alive. Write down or say what you are grateful for that day. This is great as a bedtime family activity.

  4. Set a time for a zoom celebration on the actual holiday with family and friends and have fun with it!

  5. Make a creative gift and ship it out in time to open during the zoom celebrations. DIY projects are always fun and are a personal favorite of mine to receive. Just because the holiday season looks different this year doesn’t mean it has to feel different!

Let’s raise our vibration and keep the holiday spirit alive! Wishing you all a Holiday Season filled with love, laughter, and blessings.
