Moms on the Move - Jodi Day of Mother Mother Shop
We are so excited to introduce you to Jodi Day of Mother Mother. Jodi and I connected through Hey Mama and not only was she extremely generous with sharing her tech knowledge, she also has an incredible website that features some of the most practical and downright rad gift sets for new and expecting mamas. Also make sure to check out her instagram because she has a great giveaway happening right now.
First, tell us your story! We’d love to hear a little bit about yourself and your business.
My background is in User Experience Design and web development. I’ve worked for tech startups, global brands, and design agencies. When my son was an infant, I left my job in New York, and our family moved to Los Angeles. By the time he turned one, I was beyond burnt out from putting him above my own needs day after day. I began a new self-care routine and it changed my life.
I looked for a shop that had all the essentials for the complex care of mothers. From compression leggings and perineum care to natural makeup and skincare. It didn't exist, so I set off to create it.
I talked with dozens of mothers to discover their self-care must-haves. I took my long list of items, started looking for the best-in-class brands, and Mother Mother was born.
Over the past year I have been developing my own line of products. With sustainability in mind, the focus is on elevated design at an accessible price point. So far Mother Mother has launched nine products with six more in development.
How many kids do you have, what ages?
1, Arlo will be 3 in January.
What are your top three recommendations for things to do with kids in LA ?
Pitfire Pizza is very kid friendly. I love that they have clay for the kids to play with and keep.
Annenberg Community Beach House is the best beach for kids. They have a pool, splash pad, park, restaurant, and umbrellas. Tip: get there before 10am on the weekend for parking.
Santa Monica Airport to watch the planes land, visit the Museum of Flying, and play at the park.
How do you network as a parent and a business person?
I am terrible at networking, but being a member of Hey Mama has been great so far. I’ve connected with so many amazing people. From joining giveaways and getting advice, to helping others with their questions.
We moved to LA two years ago during a heatwave. I would go to indoor play spaces and just chat with the mamas there. I met one of my closest LA friends that way.
Where do you go for inspiration on the web and in real life?
I am most inspired when I’m not looking for inspiration. Taking breaks, going for a walk, meditating.
What is the first website you visit every morning?
Shopify — I still get excited when I wake up to sales. I want to see who my customers are and how found Mother Mother. As a UX designer, I am always researching and fine tuning the experience.
What are you three favorite Instagram accounts to follow?
I love following and connecting with my customers. Most recently I connected with a lovely mama-to-be, @jordy.whitiker, after she posted about her Mother Mother Magnesium Oil.
@shopberte: This shop opened around the same time as Mother Mother last year. I connected with the owner and we are now IG pals and small business cheerleaders. It’s nice to be able to talk to someone on the same journey as you.
@thisisloom: Everything from periods to pregnancy empowered education.
What is on your to do list for today?
I am finalizing our inhaler refill packaging, taking product photos (new inhaler boxes just arrived!), and launching a new ecommerce site for a client (casual UX side hustle).
Sum up motherhood in one sentence.
"Is it easy? Nope. Is it worth it? Yes!"
And finally, where can we find you?
