Highchair LA Reviews: Butcher's Daughter

VENICE

Butcher’s Daughter

1205 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice, CA 90291

I always feel a little torn on whether or not Abbot Kinney Blvd is toddler friendly. Although the strip is packed with plenty of bites and the kid-centric burro, the street itself is narrow, packed with directionally challenged tourists.

When I first moved to LA in 2013, I moved to Venice and Abbot Kinney and got to experience that remainder of that Californication-type strip. But it felt like overnight it went from “hipster” to “cool mom” and even as a mom now, I’m rolling my eyes at that change. There’s a lack of culture here now and it feels generic (Adidas and Caudalie are so Westfield).

Ok, enough with my griping. Butcher’s Daughter, an all-day cafe focused on plant-based meals is a pretty great option if you happen to be on the Blvd. It’s not a longtime local favorite, but hey, who even is on Abbot Kinney anymore? (and don’t tell me Gjelina, I find it overrated)

Vibes: This place is sunny and relaxed, which is very typical of any spot in Venice. I used to work at 3 Square Cafe (RIP) a few stores over and I feel like since they closed, this is the new spot for the yoga moms of LA. Lots of hot moms with little ones and lots of doggies too! My kiddo learned how to say “Dog” recently so my lunch was all about her following around a dog.

Kids Menu: No designated kid’s menu here, which I found surprising, especially with so many moms. Luckily there are plenty of items on the menu. Kiddo and I shared a side pancake, a side of fruit and white bean and fennel sausage. I didn’t expect her to take many bites of the sausage but to my surprise, she took devoured it! Pancakes and fresh fruit are impossible to go wrong with, she loved those as well.

Price: $16

Highchairs: Clean high chair, in great shape.

Changing Table: I asked about a changing table and a server told me they could bring one to me. It’s a portable changing table? I was so confused!  I didn’t take him up on it, and I’m kicking myself for that! Has anyone here used that? I’m so curious now…

Stroller Access:  They checked my stroller at the hostess stand, it’s tight quarters here.

Parking: Parking on Abbot Kinney is stressful. Be sure to keep an eye out for metered parking lot directly behind the buildings of street.

Bonus: For the cinephile moms, check out Charlie Chaplin’s favorite haunt, the Cadillac Hotel, an Art Deco hotel dating back to 1914. 8 Dudley Avenue, Venice 90291

Rating: 4.5/5 Spoons 🥄 🥄🥄🥄 - Great spot, I can definitely see why it’s so popular with the cool Venice moms.
