Kid-friendly Nail Products from Celeb Nail Artist, Mimi D
When it comes to nail products, I am definitely an expert on the best things. And if I don’t know about something, I can lead you to the place or person who does. When asked about my top choices for kid-friendly and eco-friendly nail products, these are my go-to’s.
Anytime parents ask me for a recommendation for nail polish safe enough for their kids, I direct them to Piggy Paint. Piggy Paint is non-toxic, virtually odorless, and free of ALL harsh chemicals. Being non-toxic is amazing because kids are constantly putting their hands in their mouths. With Piggy Paint, it’s one less thing to worry about. Piggy Paint comes in a rainbow of fun colors! Which means there’s a color for everyone. Another major plus about this brand: it's cruelty-free and vegan. Which is a win in every parent’s book.
One of my other favorite products for kids is cuticle oil. Kid got hangnails? That could be a sign of dry skin. Cuticle oil will help cut down on that. Oil penetrates much deeper than lotion. There are tons of options on the market, with various price points, so I'm sure you'll be able to find one you like. And if not, you can create your own custom blend. If you've got a nail biter, try adding garlic to vitamin E oil to help your child do it less. Want to add some aromatherapy, try using peppermint or lavender oil. The combinations are endless. And if all else fails, coconut or olive oil will do the trick!
My last kid friendly nail product is soy-based nail polish removers. Although it's a bit more pricey than your traditional polish remover, more parents are turning to it because of its ingredients. With traditional removers, the base is acetone. Which had a distinct aroma and if we’re going back to the hands in mouth thing, kids certainly don’t enjoy the taste of their fingers after using a traditional remover. With soy-based removers, the base is essential oils and of course, soy. Which is much softer on the nostrils and the taste buds. With s-b removers you don't have to worry about the harsh aroma that acetone produces. Some are rose or lavender scented because of the oils. The polish removal process does require more time as soy-based removers take a little longer to work. The most effective way that has worked for me: dip a piece of cotton in the s-b remover, apply it to the nail and wrap it like you would if you were removing gel polish. By the time you’ve wrapped the 10th finger, the 1st one should be ready to remove and no polish should be on the nail. A little scrubbing may be necessary. In the end, acetone based removers are drying. Whereas soy based removers are hydrating because of the essential oils. Thus making it a great product for kids.
