Meet Brenda Stearns of She Plus Five

Hello, I’m Brenda Stearns, the mama behind @she_plusfive where I love to share our beautiful chaos that is life!
My husband and I have been married for almost 10 years and we have five beautiful children ages 9, 7, 6, 4, and almost 2.
What’s most difficult about having a family with five kids? What’s the best part?
I would say the most difficult thing about having a large family is the comments we get from strangers. Most of the time we receive genuine comments from people who are just curious about our life and we love hearing people’s opinion and their thoughts, but there’s that 20% that don’t “approve” of our large family and will let us know in from of our kids. So that is the one thing that is the hardest for me.
The best thing is that we have so much love to go around. My children are best friends and we truly are a team. We love having a full house! One of my favorite things is seeing how my children love and interact with one another. It makes my heart grow even bigger.
What are three tips you have for managing a busy household?
Wake up before the kids and get your alone time.
Treat the family as a team where everyone knows what’s expected of them to take care of their home. Chores shouldn’t fall on mom alone and this is key for having more time to do things that we as moms enjoy. We shouldn’t be spending all day cleaning!
Communication. Me and my husband are a team and the way the household runs is up to both of us. We are in constant communication about our feelings, emotions, our time, the kids homeschool, and all things related to our family. This way the ‘busyness’ of life isn’t moms responsibility but rather both parents.

In one sentence, can you describe what it means to be a mother?
Motherhood is a beautiful, sacred, and honorable gift that will transform you into a softer, more tender version of yourself and will make you more vulnerable, brave, and strong.
