36 Hours in Steamboat Springs, CO (With a Toddler)
Last week we took five days to drive from Los Angeles to Northern Michigan. We spent one night in Zion
(read my review of Under Canvas Zion here), one night in Moab and two nights in Steamboat Springs. We had never been to Steamboat Springs before and knew very little about it but I can tell you this, I am now obsessed with it! I am already planning a return trip because it was such a great destination and there was so much more we would love to do and explore. We were only there for around 36 hours but we made the most of our time and got to see a lot of the area. Here is everything we did in our day and a half (in chronological order):
Off the Beaten Path Bookstore - Of course our very first stop was a bookstore and it was such a good one! We bought a few kids books and activities which we then brought over to the brewery.
Mountain Tap Brewery - Located right downtown along the river, this is a great spot for a casual drink or dinner with family. We sat here for a few hours enjoying the great food and drinks while our daughter played with her sticker books.
Explore the Yampa River - After dinner we walked along the river path and walked right down into the water for a while. We watched dozens of people float by in rafts and definitely plan on trying them out on our next visit.
Seedz Cafe - A friend recommended this spot and it did not disappoint, Seriously, if it was in Los Angeles I’d go at least once a week. Not only was it delicious but it’s also great for people with dietary restrictions like myself.
Fish Creek Falls - If you visit Steamboat you will absolutely be told you should visit here and I have to agree. This trail is a short drive from town and has a very kid-friendly trail down up to the waterfall overlook and directly down to the waterfall. You can also continue on past the waterfall for several miles if you’re up for a more challenging/less kid-friendly hike.
Old Town Hot Springs - Ok, I’ll be honest…this place was my worst nightmare but my daughter loved it. Being around tons of unmasked people and kids in hot springs that look a little more like a waterpark than a natural spring was a lot for me. But the little kids area was empty and my daughter had the time of her life. Next time we go we’ll try to book one of the other less commercial hot springs.
Steamboat Lake - We randomly decided to drive out to Steamboat Lake thinking we would rent a paddle board or kayak but by the time we got there it was windy and chilly. It was still a beautiful place to sit and have a picnic and hike around.
Salt & Lime - A great tex mex spot downtown with delicious tacos.
Happy traveling!
