Moms on the Move - Antonia Malim

Today we have Antonia Malim (Née Plunkett,) on The Mag. We were lucky to connect with Antonia recently as we planned an upcoming event at the Big & Tiny co-working space in Los Angeles (read more about it here).

Tell us your story! We’d love to hear a little bit about yourself and your business.

I was brought up in Paris and London but my career started in Hong Kong where I opened a private members club. I was thrown in the deep end, it was the most incredible fun and I learnt the ropes of the hospitality world very quickly. I got the bug for launching beautiful spaces and making them come to life. I love the concept to execution stage. Since then I launched a members and coffee shop club in London, a beach club in Italy and a wellness space in Hollywood.

I moved to LA because of love…which is the best reason to move anywhere! I am now a Consultant for a few hospitality brands, bringing them to life and guiding the members experience.

How many kids do you have, what ages?

Just the one - Baby Jack! He’s 18 months and a big fella. So not really a baby anymore but will always be my baby!

What are your top three recommendations for things to do with kids in LA?

I highly recommend Town Pizza in Highland Park. It’s always full of kids, birthday parties, relaxed parents and really delicious pizza and beer. There is also a black and white  photobooth for family snaps!

Echo Park lake has pedal boats which I love to go on! You can even bring your dog, so the whole family piles into one of the big swans and we glide along the lake.

We love camping in Big Bear - it’s always such an exciting adventure. Granted, you don’t get much sleep with kids in the tent but it’s a short drive home. You just can’t beat waking up in nature.

How do you network as a parent and a business person?

I do a lot of work for Big and Tiny - a co working space with childcare facilities. I get to meet other parents who have gone back to work and I regularly join some of their events - it’s been amazing for me to find a community of like-minded parents who I genuinely get on with.

Where do you go for inspiration on the web and in real life?

My mother! She’s a true inspiration. Now that I’m a mum I can see so much of her in me! It’s really scary!

I find myself too tired to read whole books at the moment so I like long form magazine like So It Goes magazine or I listen to podcasts while I cook and drive. The latest one I listen to was Dolly Parton’s America - it was fascinating. What a woman! Such a strong kind soul.

What is the first website you visit every morning?

Instagram - yikes. So bad! But it’s the truth. Having said that, it’s a great source for healthy recipes, motherhood tips and cultural news.

What are you three favorite Instagram accounts to follow?

@creativecleansing - my beautiful friend Jo speaks her truth on mindfulness, sustainability and food and I love her truth.

@nookandcook - my sister in law’s instagram. Her photos are cosy and comforting and make me miss England. Her She’s an incredible mother and cook so I learn a lot from her. Check out her recipes!

@Raven_Smith - former British Vogue Columnist. His posts really tickle me.

What is on your to do list for today?

I always walk my dog in Elysian Park - well she walks me!

I have a play date organised for Jack - he’s got to learn to play a little nicer with other toddlers so we’re working on that!

This evening I am heading to Wanderlust. Russel Brand is doing a talk, he’s been on a colourful and inspiring journey so I look forward to actually listen to him live.

Describe motherhood in one sentence.

A journey of self discovery, purpose and unconditional love.

And finally, where can we find you?

o   Website: http://bigandtiny.com/team/

o   Instagram: @ponemalim (My dad used to always say Antonia Ponia Pone… so the Pone stuck as a nickname! Careful what you call your kids for fun!)

Thank you!
