Dads on the Move - Ose Akhile
Today we have Ose Akhile of Daddy Fitness Co on The Mag. Ose is an athlete, trainer and #girldad to three beautiful kids! Read more about his mission to drive high performance fatherhood below!
Tell us your story! We’d love to hear a little bit about yourself and your job/mission.
My name is Osekalome, go by Ose. I am originally from Oakland California and grew up a multi-sport athlete. After high school, I suffered a major injury and I had to figure out what life would be like without sports. I ended up studying Kinesiology at University of San Francisco, where I also met my wife, and became a trainer for Equinox right out of college. I have been training for ten years now and enjoy the process of not only creating physical change, but mental change as well. When I became a father and became to network with more fathers, I found my true passion and purpose was to create community for us where we could support each other to be our best so we could be the best for our family. ‘Dad bod’ is more than just a physical thing, but can be mental thing as well. I created Daddy Fitness so I could provide one on one online fitness coaching for dads. I am also looking forward to growing the business to be a more complete company and truly fulfill the mission to be the driving force of high performance fatherhood!
How many kids do you have, what ages?
I have 3 daughters: Summer Rose is 3 yrs old, Violet Sky is 21 months old and Brooklyn Grey is 2 months old
What are your top three tips for parents trying to get back into fitness after baby?
Don't be afraid to carve out time, you deserve it, and if it isn't on the calendar it isn't real
Create a support group, whether it be your partner, friend(s), trainer, etc, you need accountability
Mom specific- don't beat yourself up trying to get immediate results, you just had a baby, your body is still finding hormonal balance, especially if you are breastfeeding. Take it slow and focus on getting your body moving before focusing on results
Where do you go for inspiration on the web and in real life?
I am a very big personal development guy and so I am inspired by many top leaders within that space on social media who provide applicable and non cliche content. In real life, I am inspired by making an impact. I know that there are so many fathers and even just men that need community, guidance and support. Men's mental health and emotional health is a huge deal and society hasn't really set us up with tools or comfortable space to improve in those areas and still feel like men. I hope that I can change the narrative on that and create a new movement.
What are your favorite things/activities/places to go with your kids/family?
I love doing things outdoors or educational (or both) with my kids/family. I love going hiking, or to the park or even to just a festival or farmer's market.
What is on your to do list for today?
Due to quarantine my to do list is a little bit different than normal.
home school activities
home workout
5 sales calls
Describe fatherhood in one sentence.
The ultimate transformational experience a man can undergo
Anything else you want to add?
To all dads out there doing there best to be the super hero our kids see us to be, know that you aren't alone. Only a dad can understand another dad so find some solid dad friends that share the same principles as you. Lastly, never forget to invest in well being. It's ok for your family to take out of your cup when you put in the time to refill it.
And finally, where can we find you?
