I grew up in a big city (Toronto) and live in an even bigger one now (Los Angeles). Even though I have a lot of pride for my hometown, I can’t picture myself living anywhere but here right now. Why? Because I’m a mom that doesn’t drive. LA has super affordable rideshares at my fingertips and stunning vintage apartments with great walkability. I really liked Koreatown for the food and hip bars, I loved Hancock Park for the trees and the quiet in the middle of the bustle. And now in Miracle Mile, I have shops, parks and museums at my toes.

I took a trip with Mia to one of our favorite independently owned stores, The Miracle Mile Toy Hall. They have the best selection of sustainable, innovative, adorable play things. From books and big diner sets to puppets, crafting kits and slime… there’s really something for everyone (especially big-kid-adults like me).

I have fond memories living my BIG and Home Alone dreams in the real… playing and shopping at FAO Schwarz in New York. I wondered what it would be like to take my future child to a wonderland of toys and now I get to do it all the time on a smaller and more intimate scale. When we’re in there, I watch her discover new skills and I find more things to covet. I love observing Mia from a safe distance. It’s so cool watching her begin to make choices – which train to move on the train table and which doll she likes the most… ps. It’s a Wonder Crew toy.

MiLOWE moms and our kids like to shop small when we can. Not saying we don’t indulge in e-commerce giants or big box brands but we do like to make small conscious choices that help support the environment and small businesses like us. We’re far from perfect but reminding ourselves that every small decision can have a big impact.
